Charl Knits - Chibbles Jumper In Ocean Blue And Surf White
Charl Knitwear was founded by designer Frankie Davies, who spent 20 years creating knitwear for luxury fashion brands. The label celebrates heritage craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from traditional fisherman knits and techniques. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and ethically produced, with a strong focus on sustainability, quality, and timeless style. Charl Knitwear combines expert craftsmanship and contemporary design to create knitwear that is both stylish and responsible.
Inspired by the Norfolk Fishermen’s Gansey jumpers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Chibbles is a nautically striped, women’s jumper.
It takes its name from Jimmy “Chibbles” Bishop, a Sheringham man who came from a long line of fishermen and whose Gansey was created by Esther Nurse, a much admired knitter.
This style has an integrally knitted funnel neck which is worn high (unfolded) to keep out the wind and the emphasized fashioning ribs around the raglan shoulders and neck line are beautifully aligned with the stripe.
It also has flared sleeves, a direct inversion of the tight cuffs and wide arm holes of the original Ganseys. It also has a stepped hem with side splits which give this garment a relaxed and more modern feel.
The classic Breton Ocean Blue/Surf White stripe is knitted in 100% Shetland wool. All are knitted in Perugia, Italy by a wonderful family run, small-scale knitting factory.
Measurements:
XS/S length from high point shoulder to front hem: 54cm. At centre back: 61cm. Width across chest 55cm. Raglan shoulders.
